Toronto Malayalee Samajam started its Keralolsavam in 2007 and in the very first year itself it became a huge success. The main objective behind organizing the Keralolsavam was to provide a stage for Malayalees to bring out their talents and compete with their peers. The participation by all ages in the competitions held in various performing art forms was tremendous. Encouraged by the initial success of the Keralolsavam TMS decided to continue the Keralolsavam each year. In its second year, Keralolsavam 2008 grew in terms of number of items of the competions and the number of participants.
For Keralolsavam 2009, over 200 items were staged by different age groups in various categories of performing arts, and this time competitions were conducted in two days. Bharatanatyam, Mohinyattam, Folk Dance, Cenematic Dance, Mono Act, Mimicry, Fancy Dress, Classical Music, Cenematic Songs, Patriotic Songs, Padhya parayanam, Speech competition and Instrumentsl Music such as Violin and Keyboard are the most popular items of Keralolsavam competitions. Keralolsavam became a huge success not only because of the participation by the contestants but also because of the steadfast dedication and encouragement by the parents of our younger generation. The first, second and third place winners and the KalaThilakam and KalaPrathibha recipients were awarded with trophies and certificates during a colourful ceremony, Kalanisha 2009.
